Pittsburg County Man Sentenced to Nearly 25 Years for Second-Degree Murder on Choctaw Nation Reservation

MUSKOGEE, OK — The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma has announced the sentencing of Timothy Kenneth Barber, 45, of Hartshorne, Oklahoma, to 293 months (over 24 years) in federal prison for Second-Degree Murder in Indian Country.
The conviction stems from a joint investigation conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Choctaw Nation Lighthorse Police.
According to court documents, Barber fatally shot a victim in the head at close range with a .22 caliber rifle on December 20, 2023, in Pittsburg County, which falls within the Choctaw Nation Reservation—a region under federal jurisdiction in the Eastern District of Oklahoma.
Barber entered a guilty plea on November 5, 2024, and was sentenced by U.S. District Judge John F. Heil III. He will be held in custody by the U.S. Marshals Service until he is transferred to a federal prison to serve his non-paroleable sentence.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Michael E. Robinson.
