HENRYETTA MUSEUM LOOKS FORWARD

HENRYETTA MUSEUM LOOKS FORWARD

As most of you know, the last couple of years have been a challenge for the Henryetta Historical Society. We have had very expensive repairs at the museum building, which become necessary in a 120 year old wooden building. These include a new roof, all new siding, electrical upgrades and fixes for the outside lighting. These repairs have eaten up over $20,000 from the Museum’s small financial reserve.

And future plans were tragically disrupted with the sudden loss our then president T.A Jones at the end of 2023. He put a lot of energy and plenty of ideas into keeping the Museum going.

But with these challenges behind us, the Henryetta Territorial Museum is announcing summer hours for 2025. The museum, of course, is always open by appointment, and a visit can be scheduled by contacting Brad Sellers at 918-758-9265,

But beginning this Saturday, the Museum will be open 10 am to 2 pm, twice in June, twice in July, once before school begins in August. And then once again on Labor Day, right after the parade.

Open dates for the Territorial Museum during Summer 2025:

Saturday, June 14.10am – 2 pm

Saturday, June 28.10am – 2pm

Saturday, July 12. 10am – 2pm

Saturday, July 26.10am – 2pm

Saturday, August 9.10am – 2pm

Monday, LABOR DAY. About 30 minutes after the parade!

We are strongly looking forward to being regularly open for the public again, and we hope we can build a new relationship with the good people of Henryetta.

That said, the financial condition of the Historical Society is not encouraging. Our building insurance is over $4000 per year, which takes a major slice of our shoe-string operations budget. Considering that our utilities bills add up, the Historical Society must generate about $6000 per year or more – just to swim in place. Any less and we are forced to continue to rob our reserves and fall further behind.

So, we cordially invite you to visit our museum this summer, either during regular hours or at a scheduled appointment. Let us know if you’d like to come and see us.

And also think about what it means to have a museum and a historical society preserving the city’s past. Please consider how you might support us so that the Society can continue to maintain a museum for the pleasure of the town and its visitors. It would be a shame to lose such a unique resource for this city.
